Thank you for visiting my photoblog, I hope you find something here you like. I try to post an image daily.

I work in London and spend three hours a day commuting from Essex, and with a young daughter at home it doesn't leave a lot of time for photography. I always seem to find a way somehow, though — I try to carry my camera around with me all the time and keep an eye out for suitable subjects. I think I’m gradually becoming more confident and more competent as I go along.

I originally started my photoblog over at Wordpress (here) in February 2007, but was only able to post images at a very small size; so in January 2008 I moved here to Shutterchance. I'd put a lot of work into the first site, and moving across here felt a bit like starting out all over again, so I gradually uploaded my archived images from the old blog — so now they're all here in one place. Wherever possible I've back-posted them to the dates they originally appeared, with the original commentary.

I prefer to keep post-processing and image editing to a minimum, although I usually find myself using levels, unsharp mask, saturation or desaturation, cropping, or correcting converging verticals. Sometimes I play with vignetting and overlaying layers but I don’t do any cloning and have never (yet) tried an HDR image. I’m not a big fan of flash, so hardly ever use it; and I’m definitely more interested in photographs than in cameras or computers.

I also have a Flickr photostream, called One Way Extras, where I post out-takes and other bits and pieces.

Contemporary photographers that I admire include Martin Parr and Joel Meyerowitz.

I also look at a large number of other photoblogs; there are lots of great ones out there, but my absolute favourites at the moment include Grainy Days, La Foto Del Dia, Daily Dose of Imagery, Jide Alakija, Dicksdaily and Wasted Photos. And for landscapes, Milou.

My main camera is a Canon 400D, and before that it was one of its predecessors, the 300D. I also have a film SLR, the Canon 500N, which I still use occasionally. I use the following lenses:

Sigma 10—20mm f/4—5.6
Sigma 28—70mm f/2.8
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
Sigma 100—300mm f/5.6—6.7

Pre-2008 I was also using a Canon EFS 18—55mm f/3.5—5.6 (DSLR kit lens), Sigma 24—70mm f/3.5—5.6 and Canon EF 35—80mm f/4—5.6 (SLR kit lens).

Also: Canon Speedlite 220EX, tripod, polariser on the prime lens, 0.4 ND grad filter and cable release.
