Into The Hoods

This style of phone box is far more common than the traditional red ones — the remaining red ones are strategically placed for tourists, mostly in London and in rural locations. In fact this one was removed about a week after I shot it.

You learn a new thing everyday. Thanks for the info. Not having been to England myself, I thought all the phone booths there are what I see on movies.

It is a surprise to find the Brit phone booth is changing. But at least it sounds like they are still installing phone booths. Here in Canada the cell phone has penetrated the market so much that phone booths are disappearing entirely - which makes it hard for those of us who have no use, generally, for a cell. It seems it's all changing too quickly in some ways.

The red phone boxes were/are so iconic they should never have been removed.

Many of the old red phone boxes were sold overseas, particularly in the US, where a friend in the airline business used to import and sell them. He had one of his own fitted up as as a shower in his house. In london they were always more popular as urinals...

Thanks for the info. The picture alone is OK (nothing special at all), but the story beneath makes it a very nice image.

Personally I prefer a "little story" clarifying pictures. It makes them much stronger and more meaningful.

Regarding the phone boxes: they look nice, except for the commercials. I have never seen such ones. Perhaps they'll become very iconic in the future
