Interesting that you should come to this conclusion. I was reading some time ago, a bit on the web by a professional who has concluded the exact opposite.

I know I found I didn't like what Nikon had to offer for RAW processing, and I have no other software to handle RAW so it is a useless aspect of my D80, so far as I am concerned. RAW certainly consumes space and requires a lot of conversion using more space, so I have a way to go before I'm convinced it's worth it.

But your picture is interesting. I'm not sure I like the proximity of the drawing in the frame above the flowers - like something coming down to crush them from above.

I quite like your experiment, though I find the centrality of the flowers a little problematic - I think I would have moved them a bit to one side. I like the picture above, cut off and the gentle shadows in natural light. It's true that RAW files take up a lot of room but I think they're worth it. I've only recently started shooting in RAW, but I think you would definitely see the difference if you had to print out your images quite large.
